Earning points toward a Grooveshark subscription

Grooveshark has partnered with ClearVoice, a survey company, to offer listeners another path to a subscription to Grooveshark Plus or Grooveshark anywhere.

The idea is that you take surveys and earn points toward one of these memberships over time.

The first survey sets your general profile. This gives them an idea of what other surveys to send you. You get 150 points for that one.

Then they email you survey opportunities from time to time.

To get a ‘Plus’ subscription you need 600 points

For an ‘Anywhere’ subscription you need to earn 900 points

The Grooveshark ClearVoice survey idea is interesting, but twice now I have gotten half way through the survey only to be stopped with a message saying

“Sorry, but you did not qualify for a survey at the current time.”

There is no indication of what you answered wrong, or why they did not want you to participate.

I don’t mind this so much. I wasn’t the person they wanted for their targeted survey, but I do think you should get points for starting the survey.

You know how some surveys have an indicator of progress? You should at least progress to a 10% point value for even getting to the question that disqualifies you.

Another problem I am having is that the connection between my survey account and my grooveshark profile seems a little muddied. Waiting on tech support right now to clear that up. (14 hours and no word)

This means that on the Grooveshark ‘surveys’ screen it tells me I have the 150 points I previously earned, but then if I click on the update now on Grooveshark anywhere to see what the buyout is, it tells me that there is already a profile associated with my email address. *sigh*

I hope this gets ironed out soon.

Follow Up

If you start a survey and for some reason they don’t need your data then you are ejected from the survey with a message telling you why. Previously you received nothing for this, but now you get 50 points towards your subscription. It doesn’t matter how far you get into it either. Usually they realize they don’t need your data after a minute or two. VERY COOL

  1. Thanks for the information, I just signed up and I want to go for the Grooveshark Anywhere subscription, do you know if this 900 point purchase is forever? Or would one have to continue to pay afterward…? That would be a little lame :\ Also, how often do they update the surveys? I wanna get to my 900 points so I can listen to my music on the go πŸ˜›

    • Well I am fairly positive that it is for a 1 year subscription. Just basing it on the fact that they are offering the service for an annual fee as well.

I started taking the surveys a week ago and I am already at 550points. So I think if you just keep taking the surveys it should supply you with the points you need to keep it going. I think at this rate I should be at 900 by next week so 2-3 weeks it might take? I’ll post again when I reach the magic number.

Support has been actively working with me to sync my survey and grooveshark account but it hasn’t worked out yet for me. SO I would suggest making sure you are signed in when you first start the process just to be safe.

When I clicked on the upgrade button (while having only 180 points), I was prompted that I do not have enough points to redeem a 1 month subscription upgrade

I too signed up for these surveys, only to get halfway through the first with a “you may now close this window” screen that has NO indication of why you’re closing the window. Support team seems REAL responsive, so all I’m hoping at this point is to hear that someone actually got the points and a subscription.

    • mike: I’ve had one that didn’t even start up at all, just gave me a Fail code after the initial splash screen.

I think the surveys obviously come from a number of vendors and Clear Voice must act as a clearinghouse to get you to them. So it doesn’t surprise me too much, although I think it might help to report instances like that so others of us aren’t hit with the same problem.

  3. Just to clear everything up, the grooveshark points basically add up to 1$ per 100 pts.

Yea it’s officially ONLY 1 month of Groove shark anywhere for 900 points I got to 250 and I’m done not worth my time for a month of service.

    • Just checked their site, and with Danny’s math it definitely does look like it takes 900 points to get to a month of service. Thanks for the update! I think I have 500 now, but the surveys have stopped coming and I don’t even see ‘Surveys’ in the dropdown list on my account anymore. I have emailed them to see what’s going on and will update soon. I think this would be worth it, if I was able to complete enough surveys each month to keep the account active. Otherwise, definitely not.
